Takasaki, Gunma

Takasaki (高崎市; -shi) is a city located in Gunma, Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 241,512 and the density of 2,181.29 persons per km². The total area is 110.72 km².
The city was founded on April 1, 1900.
The city is famous as the hometown of the Daruma doll, theoretically representing the Buddhist sage Bodhidharma but in modern practice a symbol of good luck.
Takasaki's sister cities are Battle Creek, Santo Andre, Chengde, and Pilsen.
