The Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, or TNG, is a 3.58m telescope at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma in the Canary Islands. It is now funded and operated by the Italian National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) which is ensuring its financial support. During its early phase of operation it was run by the Centro Galileo Galilei after its first light in 1998.
It has a design derived from the New Technology Telescope but unlike the NTT it is also equipped with adaptive optics in addition to the active optics found on the NTT as well as other differences.
