Image:Teruel, Spain location.png Teruel (Aragonese: Tergüel) is a city in Aragon, Spain, the capital of the province of the same name. It has a population of 28194 at the 1996 padrón municipal and 30282 at the 1991 census. It's low population and the constant decline of people has made of Teruel an ignored city. Despite the lack of highways into and from Teruel there is now a large highway in construction passing close to the town. This is also to the favour of another local town called Daroca which has a catch phrase of "Autovia por Daroca" which is graffitied almost all over the town! This is translated as, Bypass for Daroca, which is exactly what they are gettin.
Teruel is a beautiful town in an old style part of spain, it has a famous cathedral in the Mudéjar style. Another church, San Pedro, keeps the mummies of Isabel Segura (a rich lady) and Diego Mansilla (a poor man) whose love ended tragically. This story was subject of a book and an opera composed by Tomas Breton.
There is a very small statue of a bull, called Torico ("little bull"), located in the Carlos Castell Square (known as Torico Square).
It is famous for its jamon serrano (a type of salted dried ham), which is not to everyone's taste, and its peculiar micro-climate.
