The Lady Chablis

The Lady Chablis, born Benjamin Edward Knox in 1957, is a full-time transvestite, preoperative transexual, and drag queen. She was brought to wide public attention when she figured as one of Savannah's colorful characters in John Berendt's novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
She then played herself in the subsequent movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack. This was followed by a rapid tour of talk shows and the purchase of Club One in Savannah where she still performs regularly. The Lady Chablis also continues to travel the US performing at various venues and special events.

In her early career as an entertainer, under the names Brenda Dale Knox and The Lady Jonel, she won multiple titles in drag pageantry including:

Her autobiography is titled Hiding My Candy: The Autobiography of the Grand Empress of Savannah and was first published in 1996 by Pocket Books.
