The Macallan

Image:The Macallan 12 year bottle.jpg Image:The Macallan cask strength scotch whisky.jpg The Macallan is a single malt Scotch whisky, produced at a distillery called Easter Elchies House, at Craigellachie in the Speyside region. The Macallan is matured in oak sherry casks brought to the distillery from Jerez, Spain. Beginning in 2004 Macallan also introduced their Fine Oak series, with the whisky mellowed in oak barrels rather than sherry ones.

The distillery produces a number of expressions, the most generally available being the 12-year-old, though the 18-year-old is also well known. Additionally a cask strength (non diluted) version, and expensive 25 and 30-year-old versions can also be found. The Macallan is one of the ingredients of the Famous Grouse blend.
