The Wedding Singer

Template:Infobox Film The Wedding Singer is a 1998 romantic comedy film by Frank Coraci starring Adam Sandler as Robbie Hart, a wedding singer, and Drew Barrymore as Julia Sullivan, the object of his affections. Robbie's backup singer, George (played by Alexis Arquette), is a parody of Boy George.

Set in 1985, the film prominently features New Wave style music, as well as varied others from that era; although some people who were alive in the real '80s have criticized the movie for feeling more like 1983 or 1984 because many of the songs and fashions featured in the movie were starting to become dated in the real 1985. Also there is a shot of a Canadian A320, the aircraft didn't enter service until 1988.

The Wedding Singer has been adapted into a Broadway musical. It premiered during January and February of 2006 in Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. It's New York opening is April 27th 2006 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The New York run will have actor and comedic singer-songwriter Stephen Lynch and Broadway veteran Laura Benanti, a two-time Tony Award nominee, reprise their lead character roles. Prior to opening on Broadway, the musical was nominated for three Drama League Awards [1].

In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted The Wedding Singer the 43rd greatest comedy film of all time.

The film's two stars re-teamed in the 2004 romantic comedy 50 First Dates.
