Wark

  • Wark is a Scots noun for a building, from the noun wark [wark, wA:rk] (work). The verb form is wirk [wIrk, wVrk]. The past tense is wrocht [wroxt].
  • Wark is a tranquil village in Tynedale, in the North of England, a few miles from Kielder reservoir. The name is derived from the Viking word for Earthworks, and refers to the mound at the south of the village, where a meeting hall once stood. The hotel name 'battlesteads' is taken from the stables that once stood there, as the meeting hall was used as the main meeting place for the Clan Chieftains. Wark was also once the capital town of Tynedale, and still retains a Town Hall, rather than a Village Hall.
  • Wark on Tweed is a village in Berwick upon Tweed Borough, in the North of England. It sits virtually on the border with Scotland.
  • Kirsty Wark. She is a Scottish journalist and television presenter. She currently presents BBC's Newsnight
  • "Wark" is a common onomatopoeia for the sound a chicken or alpaca makes. This sound is also the most common sound a Chocobo makes in the Final Fantasy series of video games. Finally, it is also the sound Pen2, from Evangelion, makes.
