Wavre

Wavre is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant, of which it is the capital. On January 1 2005 Wavre had a total population of 32,023. The total area is 41.80 km² which gives a population density of 766.03 inhabitants per km².

On June 18 and June 19, 1815, the last battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition was fought here between Marshal Grouchy and the Prussian III Corps under the command of General Johann von Thielmann.

Wavre is the location of a broadcasting facility for shortwave, medium wave, FM and TV of the Belgian broadcasting society. As aerial for medium wave a guyed steel framework mast is used. The aerials for FM and TV are on a free standing lattice tower. On October 13 1983 a storm destroyed the main transmission mast for TV transmission.
