White Hall is a town located in Lowndes County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 1,014.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 40.2 km² (15.5 mi²). 40.0 km² (15.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 1,014 people, 361 households, and 266 families residing in the town. The population density was 25.3/km² (65.6/mi²). There were 398 housing units at an average density of 9.9/km² (25.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 1.38% White, 98.03% Black or African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.30% from two or more races. 0.79% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 361 households out of which 40.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.5% were married couples living together, 35.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% were non-families. 23.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.33.

In the town the population was spread out with 32.4% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 77.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 70.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $18,158, and the median income for a family was $21,875. Males had a median income of $20,885 versus $18,125 for females. The per capita income for the town was $10,062. 31.7% of the population and 29.4% of families were below the poverty line. 35.8% of those under the age of 18 and 47.5% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
