Elmer Rees is one of the world's leading mathematicians in the field of geometry. Until recently he was a Professor at the University of Edinburgh. His recent projects involve differential geometry, algebraic geometry, dynamical systems, Morse theory, robotics and linear algebra.
Recently, Professor Rees has been named Director of the Heilbronn Intitute for Mathematical Research, a new mathematics institute being established through a partnership between Bristol University and GCHQ. The Institute became operational in October 2005.
