History

George and Ernest Adnams bought a brewery in Southwold, a town in Suffolk, in 1872. The company has remained independent since then, producing a range of beers for distribution mainly in East Anglia. At the beginning of 2004, Adnams purchased land in neighbouring town Reydon to expand their business.

Brief details

Annual production is around 70,000 barrels.

To this day, barrels of Adnams ale are delivered to the pubs of Southwold by horse and dray.

An advertising campaign has also been put in place, the slogan of which is "Beer from the Coast".

Adnams is also a major regional wine merchant and pub company.

Beers

Adnams produce three regular cask ales and six seasonal ales, plus three pasteurised bottled beers.

  • Suffolk Strong Bitter - A 4.5% pasteurised bottled version of the retired cask Extra.
  • Tally Ho - A 7% winter warmer or barley wine available during the winter months.
