William Allen (1704-1780) was a lawyer, businessman, and statesman in colonial Pennsylvania. He was Chief Justice of the colony's Supreme Court in the period just before the American Revolution. Along with his business partner, he built the structure known as Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Allentown, Pennsylvania is named for him. Allen also served as a colonial Mayor of Philadelphia from 1735 to 1736.
