Parascotopetl, "the Matterhorn of the Andes," is a fictitious mountain of Ecuador that appears in H. G. Wells's short story "The Country of the Blind". The inhabitants of a valley in the mountain's shadow are all blind from birth.
The name is clearly invented but, intriguingly for a mountain located in South America, appears to be Nahuatl in form.
