Thread mode is a method of using a wiki or similar collaboration tool for discussion in such a way that the threads of the discussion are preserved within the document.

Wikipedia pages that use thread mode include the village pump, the help desk, and almost any talk page.

See also document mode.

Pros

Thread mode allows for freeform discussion on a Wiki, without addons to the WikiEngine.

Cons

Because everything is so freeform, basic rules of most forums (i.e., people can only delete or edit their own posts, and sort order) cannot be enforced.
