The Naval Historical Center (NHC) is the official history program of the United States Navy. It is physically located at the Washington Navy Yard, and maintains a website of considerable value.
The NHC develops and maintains several important publications, including:
- Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships (DANFS)
- Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons (DANAS)
- Naval Documents of the American Revolution
- The Naval War of 1812: A Documentary History
The website also includes an extensive collection of photographs and artwork relating to Navy history. Even so, the material on display is just a sampling of the physical images that are available from Navy archives.
