Alone in the Dark is a 2005 Brightlight Pictures horror film based on the popular video game of the same name. It is directed by Uwe Boll, and stars Christian Slater as supernatural detective Edward Carnby. The movie is a direct sequel to the last installment of the game series, but contains plot elements that directly contradict it, thus whether it's considered canonical is debatable. The German band Solution Coma contributed the title song.

Upon its release, Alone in the Dark recieved poor reviews from critics and video game devotees alike. Much of the bad publicity for the film originated on Internet forums where video game fans panned the film even before its release.

The film was popular on the foreign film distribution market, it was among the top 10 releases in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The film was released in Australia on DVD in late December 2005.

The film is credited as being "based upon the video game Alone In the Dark", though it has nothing in common with the original 1992 Infogrames title save the name of Christian Slater's character.
The record label Nuclear Blast spent $30,000 to promote their bands.
Film budget was $20 million. It only earned $2,834,421 on its opening weekend January 30, 2005.
Is currently on IMDb's bottom 100 movies of all time. This fact can, however, only be taken at face value as IMDb users registered negative reviews even before the film's release.
