SciTE or SCIntilla based Text Editor is a cross-platform text editor written by Neil Hodgson using the Scintilla editing component. It is licensed under a minimal version of the Historical Permission Notice and Disclaimer<ref name="license">Scintilla license file, http://scintilla.sourceforge.net/License.txt</ref>. The current version is 1.68, released on March 11 2006<ref name="1.68">Announcement of SciTE 1.68, http://mailman.lyra.org/pipermail/scite-announce/2006-March/000030.html</ref>.
Lightweight and built for speed, it is designed mainly for source editing, and performs syntax highlighting and inline function reference for many different languages. There is a standlone exe available - ideal for USB sticks. SciTE shares some features with Notepad++ which is also based on the Scintilla editing component.
