Template:UTcounty Uintah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Utah. As of 2000 the population was 25,224 and by 2004 had been estimated at 26,671. It was named for the Ute Indians, the tribe that lives in the basin. Its county seat and largest city is Vernal.6

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 11,652 km² (4,499 mi²). 11,596 km² (4,477 mi²) of it is land and 57 km² (22 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.49% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 25,224 people, 8,187 households, and 6,541 families residing in the county. The population density was 2/km² (6/mi²). There were 9,040 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 87.73% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 9.38% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.05% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 3.54% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 8,187 households out of which 44.50% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.70% were married couples living together, 10.60% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.10% were non-families. 17.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.05 and the average family size was 3.45.
In the county, the population was spread out with 34.60% under the age of 18, 10.70% from 18 to 24, 25.40% from 25 to 44, 19.30% from 45 to 64, and 9.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 99.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $34,518, and the median income for a family was $38,877. Males had a median income of $33,966 versus $21,199 for females. The per capita income for the county was $13,571. 14.50% of the population and 12.00% of families were below the poverty line. 17.60% of those under the age of 18 and 10.40% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
