- A winder is a device for transferring energy into a mechanical storage such as mainsprings or the weights of a longcase clock. Its supply may be the hand—most familiarly so—or a motor.
- A winder can also be a machine for wrapping string, twine, cord, thread, yarn, rope, wire, ribbon, tape, etc. onto a spool, bobbin, reel, etc.
- Winder was a name given of ship of the US Navy of the 20th century, the USS Winder (PCS-1376) towards the end of its period of service.
