Hump-winged grigs are insects belonging to the grasshopper family Prophalangopsidae. There is only one extant genus in North America, several lesser known genera in Asia and at least 12 fossil genera.
The closest living relatives to the Prophalangopsidae are the Katydids (family Tettigoniidae); the evolutionary split occurred more than 230 million years ago in the Permian.
The North American genus Cyphoderris contains three species northwestern in distribution:
- Cyphoderris buckelli - Buckell's grig
- Cyphoderris monstrosa - Great grig
- Cyphoderris strepitans - Sagebrush grig
