Angola is a village located in Erie County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,266. The name is reportedly derived from the nation of Angola.
The Village of Angola is within the Town of Evans in the southwest part of Erie County.
Angola On The Lake is another (unincorporated) community northwest of the village.

History
The community was previously called "Evans Station." The name was changed to "Angola" supposedly because of local residents supporting missionary efforts in that country. The Village of Angola was incorporated in 1873.
In June 2004 an attempt to dissolve the village was thwarted by a judicial ruling that the petitions for a referendum were invalid.
Geography
Angola is located at 42°38'21" North, 79°1'51" West (42.639109, -79.030709)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²). None of the area is covered by water.
Angola is a few miles east from the east shore of Lake Erie and is west of the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90).
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 2,266 people, 844 households, and 618 families residing in the village. The population density was 611.8/km² (1,589.5/mi²). There were 903 housing units at an average density of 243.8/km² (633.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.60% White, 0.44% African American, 1.32% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 1.46% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 844 households out of which 39.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% were non-families. 22.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the village the population was spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $40,050, and the median income for a family was $48,352. Males had a median income of $37,931 versus $27,298 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,598. 11.2% of the population and 7.6% of families were below the poverty line. 18.8% of those under the age of 18 and 2.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
