Mission Bend is a census-designated place located in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Houston within Fort Bend County and Harris County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 30,831.

Geography

Mission Bend is located at 29°41'37" North, 95°39'42" West (29.693667, -95.661721)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 13.6 km² (5.3 mi²). 13.5 km² (5.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.57% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 30,831 people, 8,978 households, and 7,864 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,276.1/km² (5,900.1/mi²). There were 9,202 housing units at an average density of 679.3/km² (1,761.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 46.32% White, 21.50% African American, 0.31% Native American, 16.96% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 10.63% from other races, and 4.20% from two or more races. 27.06% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 8,978 households out of which 55.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.5% were married couples living together, 12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 12.4% were non-families. 9.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.43 and the average family size was 3.67.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 33.7% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 3.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $60,222, and the median income for a family was $60,999. Males had a median income of $39,323 versus $31,119 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $20,029. 5.7% of the population and 4.5% of families were below the poverty line. 7.5% of those under the age of 18 and 8.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Education

Mission Bend residents are zoned to schools in the Fort Bend Independent School District.

The area is zoned to Mission Bend Elementary School, Hodges Bend Middle School, and George Bush High School.
