In the Mahabharata, Ghatotkacha is the son of Bhima and Hidimbi. He was killed by Karna in the great battle. His wife was Ahilawati. His son was Barbarika.

In more recent history, Ghatotkacha (c. 280-319 A.D.) was a pre-imperial Gupta king in northern India. His reign is considered insignificant and he is best known as the father of Chandragupta I, the first Gupta emperor.
