History

Initally founded as a kimono retail store in 1858 by Chubei Ito, ITOCHU gradually evolved from pure buying and selling to manufacturing, supplying, exporting and investments. After various mergers and acquisitions, it was incorporated in 1949. It now ranks as the largest Sogo shosha in Japan and among the world's largest companies; it has 1,027 subsidiaries and associated companies operating in over 80 countries.
