Qiryat Yam is a small city in Israel, located 30km north of Haifa in the Haifa District. It is part of a cluster of small cities informally known as "HaQerayot".
The population of Qiryat Yam is about 38,000 (2003), of whom about 20,000 arrived after 1990, following the large aliyah from the collapsing Soviet Union. The average Qiryat Yam income is about 4,500 NIS per month, (almost 2000 NIS below the national average).
