The Hidden Persuaders is a book by Vance Packard, first published in 1957 (ISBN 0671531492).
Packard explores the use of consumer motivational research and other psychological techniques by advertisers to manipulate expectations and induce desire for products, particularly in the American postwar era. The book questions the morality of using these techniques, and includes an early mention of subliminal tactics.
