Image:ShonanShinjukuLineApr05.jpg The Template:Nihongo is a railway line in Japan that connects the cities of Saitama, Tokyo, Yokohama, Kamakura, and Odawara. It is not a distinct railway line, but rather a 78 km composite line formed by portions of the Takasaki Line, Utsunomiya Line, Saikyo Line, Yokosuka Line, and Tokaido Main Line.

Trains

Initially, services were operated using a mixture of rolling stock, including 115, series, 211 series, 215 series (double-deck), E217 series, and E231 series EMUs, but rolling stock was standardized on the E231 series EMUs in 2004, from which date these trains also included two bilevel Green cars.

The following types of services run on the Shonan-Shinjuku Line:

• Template:Nihongo

Local trains go from the Utsunomiya Line through the Shonan-Shinjuku Line to the Yokosuka Line and vice versa, making all station stops.

  • Takasaki Line rapid services run from the Takasaki Line through the Shonan-Shinjuku Line to the Tokaido Main Line and vice versa. These trains do not stop at Nishi-Oi, Shin Kawasaki, Hodogaya or Higashi-Totsuka stations.
  • Utsunomiya Line rapid services run from the Utsunomiya Line through the Shonan-Shinjuku Line to the Yokosuka Line and vice versa. Between Oyama and Omiya on the Utsunomiya Line, these trains only stop at Koga, Kuki and Hasuda stations. On the Shonan-Shinjuku and Yokosula Lines, these trains make all station stops.
• Template:Nihongo

Special Rapid trains run from the Takasaki Line through the Shonan-Shinjuku Line to the Tokaido Main Line and vice versa, making limited station stops. On the Shonan-Shinjuku segment between Omiya and Ofuna, these trains do not stop at Ebisu, Nishi-Oi, Shin Kawasaki, Hodogaya or Higashi-Totsuka stations.

• Template:Nihongo and Template:Nihongo

These are special, all-reserved commuter express trains with comfortable seating. They operate from Odawara to Shinjuku on weekday mornings, and in reverse on weekday evenings. These trains normally do not stop between Shibuya and Fujisawa. Between Fujisawa and Odawara, varying stops are made. A reserved seat fee of ¥500 is required to use this service, in addition to the standard fare.
