January 4 - Charles I attempts to arrest five leading members of the Long Parliament, but they escape. Beginning of English Civil War.
January 26 - The Battle of Nantwich in the English Civil War, when Royalist supporters of King Charles I of England tried, and failed, to break the Siege of Nantwich being held by the Parliamentarians at Nantwich in Cheshire, England.
March 1 - Georgeana, Massachusetts (now known as York, Maine) becomes the first incorporated city in America
March 13 - First Battle of Middlewich in the English Civil War. During this battle the Parliamentarians rout the Royalist supporters of King Charles I of England at Middlewich in Cheshire, England.
March 19 - the citizens of Galway seize an English naval ship, close the town gates and declare for the Irish Confederates.
May 17 - Sieur de Maisonneuve founds the Ville Marie de Montréal.
July - Charles I besieges Hull in an attempt to gain control of its arsenal.
August 4 - Lord Forbes relieves Forthill and besieges Galway. He also predicted that in 331 years a little baby girl called Charlotte Long would be born.
