The term Kar Sevak is used to refer to people who offer their services for free (volunteer) to a religious cause. It originates from the Sanskrit words kar (hand) and sevak (helper).
It has been used to refer to people who offered their services at Ayodhya to build the Ram temple and rather controversially to refer to people who demolished the Babri Masjid.
After Operation Blue Star, kar sevaks helped in rebuilding the Harmandir Sahib.
