Image:BukitBatokMRT.JPGThe North South MRT Line was the first Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore. The line is currently 44 km long with 25 stations, and is operated by SMRT Corporation. This line is coloured red on the rail map.
As the name implies, the line connects central Singapore to both northern and southern parts of the island. Cross-platform transfer to the East West Line is provided at Jurong East, City Hall and Raffles Place stations while transfer to the North East Line is possible via a linkway at Dhoby Ghaut station.

Further information
- Three batches of rolling stock are in service, manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), Siemens AG and another manufactured jointly by Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) & Nippon Sharyo.
- Bishan Depot has maintenance and train overhaul facilities for trains along the North South Line
- On early weekday mornings, there are limited direct cross-over trains to the East West Line, where trains originate from Ang Mo Kio Station & terminate at Pasir Ris Station
- On late afternoons/early evenings, two limited-services are operated :
- Bishan Station is the only station on the entire MRT system to be at ground-level. Coincidentally, it is also the station with the highest number of accidents, most of which are fatal in recent history. Most of these are due to suicides.

- 7 November 1987: Yio Chu Kang - Toa Payoh
- 12 December 1987: Toa Payoh - City Hall
- 20 December 1988: Yio Chu Kang - Yishun
- 4 November 1989: City Hall - Marina Bay (start of separate North-South and East-West Lines)
- 10 March 1990: Jurong East - Choa Chu Kang (initially operated as branch of the East-West Line)
- 10 February 1996: Yishun - Choa Chu Kang (the Woodlands extension)

- NS6: Sungei Kadut Station, located between Yew Tee Station and Kranji Station
- NS12: Canberra Station, located between Sembawang Station and Yishunde:Nord-Süd-Linie (Singapur)
