Arathorn II is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's universe of Middle-earth. He was the fifteenth of the Chieftains of the Dúnedain.
Like his forefathers, he was raised by Elrond in Rivendell while his father Arador dwelt in the wild. Arathorn asked for the hand of Gilraen at a very young age. Though his father Arador initially opposed the marriage, his wife prevailed upon him to agree to the match, as she foresaw that an early death awaited her son.
Arathorn became the Chieftain of the Dúnedain in T.A. 2930, when his father was captured by Hill-Trolls. He ruled for only 3 years until 2933, when he was slain by an arrow in the eye while hunting Orcs. He was followed by his infant son Aragorn II, also known as Elessar Telcontar.
