Template:Pokeinfobox Spearow (オニスズメ Onisuzume in Japanese, Habitak in German and Piafabec in French) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise, listed as #21 in the National Pokédex.

The name "Spearow" is a combination of spear due to its sharp beak, and sparrow, a type of bird.

Biology

Spearow is a small bird Pokémon. It eats insects in grassy areas, and has short wings, which means Spearow has to fly fast to stay airborne, and can't fly very far or high. It also uses its wings for flushing out insects from tall grass, and plucks at them with its beak.

Since it isn't the strongest of Pokémon, it has to fly around ceaselessly, making high-pitched sounds to scare off other wild Pokémon and protect its territory.

In the video games

Spearow are found frequently in Kanto and Johto, while it is not available in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, requiring that you trade from Fire Red and Leaf Green. In Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness you can snag one from Cipher Peon Ezin in Phenac City.

Spearow is vulnerable to Electric, Ice and Rock, and strong against Grass, Ground, Bug, and Ghost.

It is quite weak, as are most unevolved Pokémon. It evolves into the much stronger Fearow at the early level of 20.

In the anime

Spearow first appeared in the anime after Ash confused it with the more docile Pidgey from far away and attempted to capture it with his hands and by throwing a stone, only to find himself severely pecked. This Spearow makes a reappearance in a later episode in its evolved form, a Fearow.
