Template:Main In chemistry, bonding is the process by which two or more atoms exchange valence electrons and join together to form a molecule or when two or more molecular structures connect owing to electromagnetic interactions.
Template:Main In the social sciences, the concept of bonding refers to the formation of interpersonal relationships.
In telecommunication and electrical engineering, the term bonding has the following meanings:
- The process of connecting together metal parts so that they make low resistance electrical contact for direct current and lower frequency alternating currents.
- The process of establishing the required degree of electrical continuity between two or more conductive surfaces that are to be joined.

In aviation use bonding has two different meanings:
- The electrical connection of an aircraft, re-fuelling pump and ground to prevent static electrical arcing and thus fire. This use is related to the electrical use of the term above.
- The use of special glues to attach two pieces of metal together as an alternative to bolts or rivets.
In computer networking use bonding has the following meaning:
- The combining of two or more network connections to produce one higher-bandwidth logical connection. Examples:
- The combining of two or more ethernet channels between network switches to provide a high-speed backbone
- The combining of two or more broadband connections to produce one logical connection. Generally only used when high bandwidth options (SDSL, ADSL2, ADSL+) have been exausted or are unavailable.
In dentistry, bonding is an option for repairing chipped or cracked teeth. See cosmetic dentistry.
