Shabana Azmi (born 18 September 1950 at New Delhi, India) is the daughter of famous Urdu poet Kaify Azmi.
A notable actress, she has starred in Indian films such as Ankur, Mandi, Arth, Sparsh, Godmother, In Custody, and Tehzeeb. One of the leading actresses of parallel cinema, she is now married to the lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar.She has received the coveted National Film Award for Best Actress four times.
In 1988, she was awarded the Padma Shri.
In 1998, she was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund.
She is an alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India.
