Navotas is a municipality in Metro Manila in the Philippines. The town occupies a narrow strip of land along the eastern shores of Manila Bay. Navotas is directly north of Manila, west of Malabon City, and south of Obando, Bulacan.
Navotas is an important fishing community. Much of the livelihood of the residents are centered on raising fish in the numerous fishpens in the municipality. Some also catch fish in the Manila Bay.
Navotas is part of the informal subregion of Metro Manila called CAMANAVA. This subregion aside from Navotas also comprises the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, and Valenzuela. The area is perceived to be prone to floodings especially during the rainy season but in reality floods only come during high tide, and only few barangays are affected due to projects initiated by both the local and national government. Pollution and overpopulation are also some of the problems that the government is trying to solve. Navotas is famous for Fish Sauce and Shrimp Paste and considered as the Philippines' Fishing Capital. Navotas is where the biggest and most modern fish port in the Philippines or perhaps in Asia located.
Navotas celebrated the centennial of its foundation on January 16, 2006. Local executives hope that it will coincide with the chartering of their town into a highly urbanized city.
