Abbesses is a station of the Paris Métro.

Abbesses is one of the few stations in Paris metro which have been built at a deep level. Indeed, the station is located on the butte (hill) of Montmartre, precisely on its western side. The access to the platforms is mainly made through elevators, however there are also decorated stairs which can be also used for this purpose.

The station's entrance, designed by Hector Guimard (1867-1942), is one of just two original ones left in Paris. (The second is located at Porte Dauphine.) The Abbesses station itself is in very bad condition now (as of Spring 2006), but RATP says that station will undergo complete renovation very soon.
