Template:London stations Norbiton railway station serves Norbiton, a suburb of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, in south west London. The station, and all trains serving it, is operated by South West Trains, and it is in Travelcard Zone 5.
Topographically, the station lies frustratingly shy of the main line to the South Coast which was routed through New Malden and Surbiton - a route harking back to when Kingston decided it didn't want a filthy railway through its town centre. Norbiton station lies on a pretty much standalone loop which takes in Kingston, Twickenham and Richmond.
The station lies within short walking distance of Kingston Hospital.
The station's claim to fame is that it was used as the filming location from which the title character caught his train each morning (with decreasing punctuality) in the British sitcom The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. Reggie's home town in the series was actually called Climthorpe - however, judging by the list of excuses Reggie uses in the show to explain his poor punctuality [1], it is possible that Nobbs based Climthorpe on a station in the Kingston-upon-Thames region such as Norbiton given that a typical commute to London Waterloo would pass through or be affected by delays at stations such as Hampton Wick, New Malden, Raynes Park, Earlsfield etc.
The typical off-peak service from the station is:
- 6tph (trains per hour) to London Waterloo, of which:
- 2tph to Shepperton
