Lungothrin was a Balrog in J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional Middle-earth legendarium. He was the chief bodyguard of Melkor, and often resided by his master's Dark Throne.
In the Lay of the Children of Húrin, Lungothrin was mentioned as "Lord of Balrogs", though it is unknown if this was actually the original name of Gothmog or simply a "Balrog lord". Christopher Tolkien theorized that the latter was more probable, as Gothmog existed in the earliest and final form of Tolkien's legendarium.
