Ellwangen is a town in the district of Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg in Germany.
Ellwangen has 25,000 inhabitants.
The town developed round Ellwangen Abbey, a monastery founded here in 764.
Sights of the city are the medieval town centre with its churches. Also well known are the Baroque pilgrimage church "Schoenenberg" and the castle, both on hills near to the city.
