Seastead

Current revision
Seasteads are floating platforms which could be used to create a sovereign micronation, or otherwise serve the ends of ocean colonization. The term was used in a paper by Wayne Gramlich, and later a book by Gramlich, Patri Friedman, and Andy House, which is available for free online. Their research aims to take a more realistic approach than most micronations, based on currently available technology.
The authors believe that seasteading has the potential to change the world by drastically lowering the barrier to entry to the governing industry. That means more experimentation and innovation with different social, political, and economic systems. Business opportunities include data havens, offshore aquaculture, Casinos, etc., as described in the book.
