Basil Poledouris (born August 21, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri) is a film soundtrack composer. Poledouris credits two influences which gravitated him towards his initial introduction to film music: the first was composer Miklós Rózsa and the other element had to do with his Greek Orthodox raising where he used to sit in church and just be enthralled with the choir. [1]
Presenting a powerful style, almost epic-sounding, he became one of the most remarkable composers because of his works on the soundtracks of Conan the Barbarian (1982), Conan the Destroyer (1984), Red Dawn (1984), RoboCop (1987), The Hunt for Red October (1990) Starship Troopers (1997) and For Love of the Game (1999).
Poledouris has been married to his wife Bobbie since 1969 and has two daughters. The eldest, Zoë Poledouris, is also a film soundtrack composer.
