Sirivennela is a movie based on Indian Classical Music, in the Telugu language and released in India in the year 1986. The movie is directed by Kasinadhuni Viswanath, who is known for his presentation of India in Classical Arts and their present state in the society.
The movie revolves around the role of Hari Prasad, a blind flautist (played by Banerjee) and a painter who is dumb. The director believes that it was the most challenging among all the movies he has directed.
The movie, one of the most celebrated musical masterpieces in Telugu, abounds in classical music composed by K. V. Mahadevan with flute renditions by the renowned falutist Hariprasad Chaurasia. This movie saw the music writing debut of Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry as a lyricist who penned all the songs in the movie in his. Each of the songs is profound in the richness of lyrics and are remember to this day as land-marks in Telugu film-music. Of particular mention is the song Vidhata Talapuna, sung by S P Balasurahmanyam and P Suseela. The song is about Aum, the most sacred of syllable in Hinduism, from which the Veda traditions originated.
