Current revision
The Southern League Division One West is a football league covering western England. From the 2004-05 season, it will be at step 4 of the National League System, and the 8th tier overall in the English football league system.
The division was formed in 1999 as the Midland and West Division, taking clubs from the previous Midland Division and Southern Division. It was renamed as Division One West in 2004.
At the end of each season, three clubs are promoted to step 3 of the National League System, either the Southern League Premier Division or the Isthmian League Premier Division. The champions and runners up are guaranteed automatic promotion, together with the winners of a four team playoff between the 3rd to 6th placed teams. The bottom 2 clubs are subject to relegation to one of several step 5 leagues.
The other divisions at the same level are the Southern League Division One East, Northern Premier League First Division and the Isthmian League Division One.
