Jenny Gear auditioned for Canadian Idol in St. Johns, Newfoundland in the year of 2003. She brought the judges to tears with her rendition of "God Bless The Child". She sailed through the Toronto rounds and earned her a spot in the semi-finals. She performed "Tower Of Song" by Leonard Cohen and received mixed reviews from the judges. The next night, she earned herself the fifth chair in the top 11.

Jenny was a love or hate contestant, some people thought she was "to unique" for Idol. On August 4th, the top 11 performed Canadian Hits and Jenny wowed Canada with her version of Sarah McLachlan's "Possession". The next night, she was safe without being in the bottom 4.

The next theme proved to be a challenge for Jenny, "Motown". She decided to sing "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder and although she didn't receive the greatest comments from the judges, she was safe and without a trip to the bottom 3.

Top 6 rolled along and Jenny performed an amazing rendition of "Summertime". The judges loved her choice and so did Canada, she was safe once again.

For the next theme, "Elton John", Jenny decided to perform "Rocket Man"; she received mediocre comments and the next night, she had her first and last bottom 2 trip with Ryan Malcolm (Won Canadian Idol). The results were announced and Jenny was eliminated.

Ater the show, Jake Gold (One of the Canadian Idol judges) signed Jenny to his talent agency. They went to work on her album, but they eventually parted ways because Jake wanted to go for a different style, well Jenny wanted to be herself.

She went to work on her album "Jenny Gear and The Whiskey Kittens" which was all recorded in her grandmother's kitchen. In late 2004, her album was released and had quite the success, going 3x Canadian platinum, selling over 300,000 copies.

She appeared on many telivision shows including "Breakfast Telivision", "Muchmusic's Going Coastal", "Live At 5", "Out Of The Fog", "Sessions" and many more.
