Creighton University, founded in 1878, is a Jesuit-Catholic college located in Omaha, Nebraska. Sitting on a 108-acre campus near just outside Omaha's downtown business district, it currently enrolls about 6,700 students. Creighton is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The current president is the Rev. John P. Schlegel, S.J.

Creighton is a nationally known university, ranking 1st in the 2006 US News and World Report category of top Master's Degree Mid-Western Universities (although also awarding the PhD in Biomedical Sciences). It has consistently ranked first in the past and frequently sends students to graduate programs at Ivy League Institutions.

The Colleges often have guest speakers such as Warren Buffett, Bill Rancic, Joe Moglia, Fr. Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., Ralph Nader, Clarence Thomas, various ambassadors and dignitaries, and distinguished graduates speak to the undergraduate and graduate populations in and throughout the school year.

Creighton is known as a solid natural science school because of its Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Nursing. Moreover, the entire College of Arts and Sciences has been highly acclaimed and noted nationally and internationally for academic integrity, academic excellence, and scholarly publications from faculty members.

Creighton competes in NCAA Division I athletics, competing in the Missouri Valley Conference. Nicknamed the Bluejays (also just called the 'Jays), Creighton fields 14 teams in eight sports.

The men's basketball team is the most popular of all of Creighton's athletic programs, having gone to the NCAA basketball tournament six of the last eight years (1999-2003, 2005, they went to the National Invitation Tournament in 2004 and 2006). The men's soccer team has gone to the NCAA Tournament every year for the last 14 years with 3 appearances in the Final Four and one appearance in the National Championship Match. The women's soccer team has competed in the NCAA Tournament in 3 of the last 4 years.

Creighton's baseball team has one NCAA College World Series appearance (1991), which is played in Omaha's Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium. Additionally, Creighton serves as the annual host institution of the this event.[1]

Demographics

Creighton's total enrollment is about 6,700, with 3,888 udergraduates. The enrollment is about 46 % male and 54 % female. About 56 % of the students are from outside of Nebraska. Of the student body, 83 % is Caucasian, 7 % is Asian American, 3 % African American, 3 % Hispanic/Latino, and 1 % American Indian. Out of the school's freshman class, 60 % graduate in 4 years, and 70 % graduate in 6 years.
