In Lewis Carroll's poem The Hunting of the Snark, the Bellman is the leader of the Snark hunting trip. He is a fine speaker, a handsome and inspiring man, but a rather poor sailor.

Carroll's Bellman also appears in Jasper Fforde's novel The Well of Lost Plots as the head of Jurisfiction.
A bellman can also be a name for a bellhop.
In relation with Reinforcement learning, the Bellman equation expresses the value function in relation with an observation of itself and the reward.
