Robert Pollard (born October 31 1957) is the former lead singer and songwriter for the now defunct Dayton, Ohio indie rock group Guided by Voices. He began the band as a teenager. During his years as an elementary school teacher Bob's enormous collection of GBV material manifested itself into a full time venture. Despite GBV's demise, he continues to release many records with other bands and as a solo artist, often under the general title of the "Fading Captain Series". The GBV discography combined with his own solo career and many side projects makes him one of the most prolific songwriters in indie rock.
