Sheridan Downey (1884-1961) was a Democratic Senator from California.
He was born in Laramie, Wyoming and practiced law in Laramie and later Sacramento, California. He was first elected to the Senate in 1938 and served two terms before resigning in 1950 due to poor health. Republican Representative Richard M. Nixon had already been elected to succeed him, and was appointed to fill the remainder of his term.
He is the author of the book Pensions or Penury?, published in 1939, an early book of New Deal advocacy.
