Neck-thru or neck-through or in full form neck through body is a method of guitar construction that involves cutting both guitar's body and neck from a single piece of wood. This process usually leaves huge amounts of wasted scrap wood and is the most expensive guitar construction type, thus it is usually found only on high-end guitars. However, neck-thru construction gives enormous advantages in sound sustain and deep, rich tone.

There are 2 basic varieties of neck-thru design:

  • "True" construction of whole guitar from single piece of wood - extremely expensive and requires very good wood;
  • Constructing "a stick": headstock + neck + part of body in continuation of the neck till the bottom, on which the pickups can be located. Then so-called "ears" or "wings" (i.e. side parts of the body) are glued or laminated to the central "stick". It's somewhat cheaper method and is usually advertised as "neck-thru" guitars.

Neck-thru construction allows accessing upper frets easily, because of the almost non-existant neck joint.
