Cryoprecipitate is a blood product manufactured by warming fresh frozen plasma. Each 15 mL unit contains about 100 U of factor VIII, 250 mg of fibrinogen, and other clotting factors including IX, VIIa and von Willebrand's factor.
Indications for giving cryroprecipitate include:
- Haemophilia
- von Willebrands's disease
- hypofibrinogenaemia (low fibrinogen levels), as can occur with massive transfusions
- bleeding from excessive anticoagulation
- massive haemorrhage
- disseminated intravascular coagulation
